Conditioners are probably the most important products in any hair routine. However, there are so many different types out there that it might be challenging to know which one is the best to choose from!

Hopefully we will help you navigate through the different types of conditioners so you can pick the best for your hair type and specific needs.

Cleansing conditioners

These are the ones that you can also wash your scalp and hair with (these are also known as co washes). Their cleansing properties will help remove residue and buildup and they are best for thick, curly hair as it helps to maintain moisture. You can read more about cowashing on this blog post. You can also find below some of the most popular cowashes we currently carry on our store:

rinse-out conditioners

These are the most common type of conditioners for all hair types. These are the ones you apply after shampooing your hair and the main goal is to add moisture back into your hair and help detangling you hair. Rinse-Out conditioners work by closing the cuticle scales of the hair.

We do not recommend using them to clean your scalp/hair as they do not contain any cleansing properties.

Deep Conditioners

Deep Conditioners or hair masks are treatments that will help hydrate, repair or nourish you hair. They are designed to provide an even more potent effect than everyday conditioners.
These usually have a thicker consistency and are massaged into the hair and left anywhere from 20-40 minutes. In addition, you will best reap the benefits of these products if you apply heat to your hair as it will penetrate through each strand and provide more noticeable results.

These longer treatments can be your pampering time where you give back your hair hydration, protein or nutrition.

Leave-in Conditioners

Leave-in Conditioners are the ones you apply to your freshly washed hair without rinsing it afterwards. Unlike a regular conditioner, a leave-in will stay on your hair until you next wash it.

This product comes in different forms, such as liquids, creams, or sprays. Some lightweight formulas can also be used on dry hair between washes to restore lost moisture and increase hair manageability.

Leave-in conditioners typically contain humectants that help hydrate and soften dry strands making them more elastic and stronger.

A good leave-in will also help you detangle your hair, reduce breakage, restore moisture, and tame frizz.

Leave in conditioners also help protect your hair from chlorine and salt, specially during summer, when it is more exposed to environmental damage. Extreme winter cold outside, followed by dry heat indoors can also raise the cuticle and leave hair rough and dry. Using a good leave-in will also protect your hair from cold and dry air. In addition, some leave-in conditioners also act as heat protectants.

All hair types greatly benefit from using leave-in conditioners, but they are particularly essential for coily or drier hair types. These hair types definitely need the extra moisture a regular conditioner will not provide.

There are so many great products to choose from, but these are a few of the our most popular leave-ins:
